I just watched the documentary, Art and Craft that tells the story of Mark Landis, one of the most prolific art forgers ever. But he doesn’t sell his copies, he gives them away. He started copying pictures as a young boy and over the last twenty years has given away hundreds of copies to art museums and collectors.
The film is really well done, the story and the characters are great and the way they got the footage was very clever. At a couple points I wondered about whether the directors might be taking a bit of advantage of a man who suffers with mental illness, but I think they treated him with dignity and captured his unique personality and incredible talent.
It is one of the most enjoyable documentaries I’ve watched in a while. Enjoy!
